Hard truth: You can’t self-care your way out of a misaligned life.
There was a time in my life when I thought my moods and uncomfortable emotions could be self-cared away.
If I hacked my Saturday morning self-care routine just right and read my devotional more frequently, these “wrong” emotions that I was feeling--like disconnect, loneliness, apathy, or fatigue would go away.
Little did I know, what I was actually doing was spiritual bypassing or self-gaslighting.
What I wish I knew then was that our emotions aren’t random. Emotions are messengers telling us when something is off.
Unfortunately, at that point in my life, I had become a prisoner of perfection,-- only willing to examine and show the light parts of me.
The uncomfortable emotions I was feeling were a bridge into my unconscious mind, revealing to me that my relationship and job were no longer right for me.
Shadow work is what allows us to actually sit with and examine those uncomfortable emotions so we can use them to guide us.
So,.. do you need more self-care, or do you need shadow work and a life that reflects what actually lights you up?
